Peggy Oxendine Elmore

Peggy Oxendine Elmore, 74, of Stedman, NC passed away on Tuesday, April 15, 2025 at her home surrounded by her family. She was formerly of Pembroke, NC and the daughter of the late David Ishmael Oxendine and Starlie Mae Jones. She was predeceased by her husband, Wayne, and her brother, Charles Oxendine. After graduating from Pembroke High School and nursing school, Peggy dedicated over 35 years of her life providing compassionate nursing care to thousands of veterans at the VA Medical Center. A calling that reflected her kind heart and unwavering commitment to others. She found great joy in the simple pleasures of life, including reading and spending precious time with her beloved grandchildren. Her days were often filled with laughter, love, and fellowship as she spent time with her many cherished church friends, whose companionship brought her lasting happiness and peace. Peggy was known to never miss an opportunity to send a card to let someone know she was thinking of them. She spent hours every month “working on her cards,” a simple but meaningful way she showed love and care to those around her. Peggy leaves behind to cherish her memory, daughter, Erika Huyck and husband Greg of Phoenix, AZ; daughter, Tracey Buckley and husband Tatum of Stedman, NC; sister, Doris Cummings and husband Donald of Pembroke, NC; brother, Eartle Oxendine of Ocala, FL; brother, Carson Odell Oxendine and wife Kathy of Ocklawaha; four grandchildren, Sydney, Tyler, Skylar, and Pierson; and three bonus grandchildren, Dalton, Audrey, and Rachel Seagroves. In addition. , she had many nieces and nephews that she loved and adored. A special thank you to Hollis and Ava for their constant love, friendship, and support. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Alder, Tara Coleman, and their team at the Duke Cancer Center, as well as Dr. Manning, Courtney Oxendine, and the team at the Cape Fear Valley Cancer Center, for their exceptional care, support, and compassion. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2025 at 11:00 am in Stedman Baptist Church with Pastor Jimmy Atkinson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Peggy had a deep love for flowers and an even deeper love for her church.
