Mark Daniel Freeman

Mark Daniel Freeman, 59, died September 14, 2020 at his home in Stedman, NC after a valiantly fought battle with cancer. Mark was born on the 24th of July, 1961 in Waynesville, NC to Jimmie and Marjorie Freeman. He graduated from Tuscola High School Class of ’79 where he enjoyed playing football, baseball, and being part of the wrestling team. Mark had a successful career in industrial sales which allowed him at one point in time to work and live in Chattanooga, as well as Manchester Tennessee. His work also enabled him to establish many lifelong friendships and most importantly provided him the opportunity to share his faith in Jesus Christ. Mark married Nicole Freeman on the 10th of April, 2010 at Lake Chatuge, NC. This marriage created a beautiful blended family of five children. Mark enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling, spending sunny days on the beach at Topsail Island, and playing golf. Mark had a wonderful smile and the most positive attitude even during his battle with cancer. He always said while smiling “even though I have cancer God has done nothing but pour buckets and buckets of blessings over me through this entire time”. Mark was a relationship builder and a supporter of others. He impacted the lives of many people by sharing his testimony with church members and youth groups. His attitude was not “Why Me, but Why Not Me?” and he used each day to bring a positive uplifting message to everyone he could. Another example of Mark’s loving and caring heart was that he did not believe in step families he believed that he was provided the opportunity to love, support, and care for his children no matter their biological dad. Mark told each of the children that he was not a replacement for their dad since they already had one, but he promised that would be there to support them, love them, and help them any way he could. Surviving are his wife of 10 years, Jacqueline Nicole Pope Freeman; his son, Easton of Stedman; and his children from his blended family; his son, Cullen McCoy of Chattanooga, TN; his son, Tyler Hammox of Stedman; and his daughters, Lauren and Lana Hartin of Stedman; mother, Marjorie Agnew Freeman of Waynesville, NC; brothers, Andy and his wife Joy of Lufkin, Texas, and Ken, and his wife Nancy of Waynesville, NC; mother and father-in-law, Wayland and Ruth Pope of Stedman; brother-in-law, Samuel; nephews, Trey and his wife Phoebe and Sammy; nieces, Karlee and her husband Timmy, Rachael and her husband Brannon, and Meredith; great-nephews, Todd and Tripp; and great-great niece, Harper. Mark’s memorial service will be held Saturday, September 19, 2020 at Oak Grove PFWB Church in Stedman. Visitation will begin at 3:00pm with the service to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Friends of the Cancer Center at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
