Brigitte Carmen Matteson

FAYETTEVILLE Brigitte Fiedler Matteson, 66, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2017 with her family by her side at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. Brigitte was the daughter of Emil Koch Fiedler and Anna Schleder Wilson. She was the beloved wife to the love of her life, Edward (Ed) Wayne Matteson, for over 38 years. She will be forever remembered by her devoted daughters: Sherry and husband Stanley Abercrombie of Seffner, FL, Tabatha and husband Alvaro Duran of Jacksonville, NC, Winifred and husband Ray Jenkins, and Suzanna and husband Clint Chastain, both of Fayetteville, NC; her loving sisters: Christina Dixon of OK and Ingrid Striem of Germany; her caring brother Georg Fiedler of Sweden; treasured grandchildren: Brigitte Cartrette, Jimmy “Josh” Cartrette, Billy Buford Jr., Courtney Pomeroy, Mahera Abu-Seif, Caitlin Chastain, Zachary Jenkins, Johnathan Davis, and Melaina Davis; four great-grandchildren: along with countless other friends and family whom were blessed to know her. She is preceded in death by her parents, Emil Fiedler and Anna Wilson, her husband Ed Matteson, her only son Michael Wilson and one granddaughter, Nadia Abu-Seif. Brigitte was an avid writer and reader and loved writing poetry, songs, and editorials to the local newspaper. She enjoyed reading any book that she could get her hands on. The written word meant so much to her. At a very early age, Brigitte was separated from her older two siblings. With unrelenting determination and keen research skills, in 1982 she was able to locate her brother in Sweden and sister in Germany. She accomplished this in a time that tools such as search technology and the Internet did not exist. Although she was born in Germany and was raised in the USA, she considered Sweden her second home. She had a close bond to her brother and his family. Brigitte had a passion for working with children. Her home was often referred to the “Kool-Aid House” because the neighborhood children would gather there. Her love of children lead her to work at Peter Pan Nursery, C. Wayne Collier Elementary School, and the afterschool program at the Hope Mills Recreation Center. She loved country music and she would teach kids how to two-step and the Cotton-Eye Joe dance. George Jones was her favorite singer and his version of “Good Hearted Woman” was her favorite song. A private memorial service at sea will be held on Saturday, March 25th.
