Dorothy Quiney Cole

Dorothy Carver Cole, born near Boston on Flag Day June 14,1911, died in her sleep May 12, 2014 in Wilmington, NC where she had lived four years. Her long time home was Charlotte. In 1931 while they were art students in Detroit, she married George Lambright Cole of Knoxville. Always an artist, she became an award-winning quilter after his death in 1978. Dot used her needle and vivid imagination to create embroidered, colorful wall hangings that her children and grandchildren proudly own. She leaves behind three children, Dorothy Ray, (Bill deceased) of Wilmington, Dan Cole and wife Rosemary of Austin, TX and Lysbeth Parker, (John deceased) of Charlotte. Also ten grandchildren who loved her sense of fun, thirteen great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. The Rev. Richard Elliot, at her long-standing request, will officiate at the grave-side services Monday, June 2, 2014 at 11:00 am in St. Andrews on the Sound Cemetery, 101 Airlie Road at Oleander Dr. Friends are invited.
