James "Jim" Calton Buie III

Jim was born at Cape Fear Valley Hospital in Fayetteville NC. Being the son of a Methodist preacher led him to live in Phoenixville Pennsylvania. It was not long before he moved to Virginia Beach, Virginia where he graduated from Great Bridge High School. Some may not know that he enjoyed acting in the school plays which included his favorite “Oliver.” Eventually Jim's mother, father, and brother came back home to Fayetteville. Now this move proved to be the best thing that could ever have happened to him because that is when he met his beautiful wife, Cynthia. These two have been inseparable since 1988. Shortly after their 1992 marriage their beautiful daughter Victoria was born. Jim has worked in many areas of music. Some may not know that he started out as a radio DJ. He had a career as a manager at Circuit City before moving to Best Buy. His career in the “big box stores” was taking him into other areas as a manager and out of the audio bays. He was no longer happy until his friend offered him a job working at Extreme Soundz in Lumberton, Nc. This was Jim’s final career move and it was his favorite. One day Jim told his wife he wanted to be a fire fighter to which his wife responded, “At your age”? He was in his late 30’s after all. He started that journey at Stoney Point Fire Department. He received all the training to make him an amazing Lieutenant. His wife saw his talent and the love of his department for him, which made her realize he was safe and not too old. Jim received offers from other fire departments but never entertained them because he knew he was home with his Stoney Point family. Jim and his friend Mark brought music to the fire department through the Trail of Terror by booking local bands to perform. This was another way for him to show his love of music. Jim will be remembered for his kindness to others, his broad knowledge and talent at work, his quick wit, and his desire to make his daughter happy. Jim was a loyal friend, a loving son, a nurturing father and a supportive husband. Jim will be greatly missed by all those who knew him and loved him. Jim leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Cynthia McDonald Buie of the home; daughter, Victoria Buie-Luna of Fayetteville; father, James Calton Buie II, of Fayetteville; mother, Lillian Kriner Madison of Hope Mills; and brother, Patrick Brett Buie of Fayetteville, NC. “A Celebration of Life” with Full Firefighter Honors will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2026 at 1300 pm in CrossPointe Church, 7030 Rockfish Road, Fayetteville, NC 28306. Pastor Tracy Pounders and Chaplin Carey Johnson will officiate.
