James William Baker

June 11, 1932 - August 13, 2013

Retired U.S. Army SSG James W. Baker of White Lake, NC died at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center on Tuesday, August 13, 2013. He was 81 years old. He is survived by his wife Elva Baker of White Lake, NC, his daughter Bettina and her husband Carl Elliott of Fayetteville, NC, his grandsons Brandon and Christian Elliott also of Fayetteville, NC, his sister-in-law Laura Thrift of VA, niece Regina White of Fayetteville, NC, and niece Cheri Meadowlark of VA, and best friends Joe and Cheryl Smith of White Lake, NC and long time best friend Don Choate of Alabama. There will be a small private graveside service at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake, NC on Tuesday, August 20, 2013. There will also be a lake side memorial at White Lake, NC at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cliffdale Elementary School or Douglas Byrd High School.
