Charles Edward Smith

Charles Edward Smith, 90, of Wilmington, passed away at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare on Tuesday, April 6, 2021. He was preceded in death by his father, James Blanco Smith, Sr.; mother, Annie Mae Shepard Smith; brother, James Blanco Smith, Jr.; sister, Clara Kaylor; and wife, Betty Freeman Smith. Charles was an Army Ranger, paratrooper and medic in the Korean War. He was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church as a choir member and was involved in many other church ministries. He was retired from Southern Bell as a supervisor. He was in the American Legion Post 10 and was a former Commander. He loved to fish, go out in his boat and was the best cook ever! Charles is survived by his son, Charles E. (Maureen) Smith, Jr.; daughter, Vicki Smith (Bob) Hayes; grandson, Patrick Brown; brother, David L. (Faye) Smith; and sister, Doris Holland all of Wilmington; nieces and nephews and others he considered family. There will be a Memorial service at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 16N 16th Street, Wilmington, NC on Sunday, April 18, 2021 at 2:00 pm. Charles will be laid to rest in the Bellamy Memorial Garden at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Wilmington, NC.
