Eleanor Kay Smith

Eleanor Kay Smith left us on 4 May, 2026. She died in the embrace of her husband of fifty-five years at 3:30 PM of heart failure at her home in Fayetteville, NC and was pronounced dead at the Cape Fear Valley Medical Center Emergency Department after attempts by Emergency Medical Technicians and hospital medical staff attempted life-saving care. She was preceded in passing by her daughter Ann; while being survived by her husband—Carlton (Carl); children—Lisa and Galen; grandchildren—Ashley, Gaige, Noah; and Rowan; great grandchildren—Elijah, Jackson, and with the knowledge of a new addition to her great grandchildren—a granddaughter. She is further survived by her own Family of origin by—Kathy, Virginia; Doug, Connecticut; and Sam, Virginia. Eleanor, always called Kay by those who knew her, was a caring and diligent military wife, mother, dental assistant in all the places her husband was posted to for her married life, retiring finally in Fayetteville to their home "The Cottage on Ireland Drive" until her passing in the late spring of 2026. A Presbyterian Church Christian all her life, she served as an advising church elder for a time. Beloved by her myriad of friends, all over the world, she was always gracious, charitable and emphatic of others and, much like her mother, never seemed to meet anyone who was not a friend, a truly cordial southern woman with Christian graces until the end. I, her loving husband, could go on for hours about her Christian walk; with Jesus, whom she now abides with in heaven. All those who know her will mourn her. And Christian as I am, will glory and rejoice that she is now in the heavenly paradise promised To All by our savior, the Lord Jesus.
